Being seen on the road is probably the single most important factor in motorcycle safety. As riders, our silhouette is no wider than our bike, which makes us easy to overlook in traffic.

Fortunately, today we have more options than ever to increase our visibility—brightly colored helmets, high-visibility or reflective jackets, and a wide range of lighting upgrades.

Enhancing Presence with Magic Strobes

Lighting, in particular, plays a critical role in being noticed by drivers, both during the day and at night. There are countless options available, but one that has made a real difference for me is the Custom Dynamics Magic Strobes.

I have the Magic Strobes programmed to flash my brake lights five times whenever I apply the brakes. It offers multiple programmable flash patterns, allowing riders to choose what works best for their riding style.

When I’m approaching a curve, slowing down, or preparing to stop, I’ll often tap my brakes first to alert drivers behind me before fully applying them. I can’t say for certain that it’s the reason, but so far I haven’t been hit from behind—and I consider that a win.

Custom Dynamics also offers Magic Strobes options for tour paks that include brake and turn signal lighting, and they manufacture versions for many different motorcycle models. Based on my experience, it’s a product I highly recommend adding to your bike.

Gear Up for a Safer Season

At the end of the day, anything we can do to make ourselves more visible on the road is an asset—not only to our own safety, but to the safety of everyone we share the road with.

As riding season kicks into gear this spring, visibility is just one of the many things we should keep in mind as we head out to enjoy our passion for the open road on two wheels.
